The Solomon Islands

When you come to visit us, one of the first things you will see is the local car wash. This river is often full of cars getting washed.

We had the privilege of attending a ceremony celebrating the intake of a new group of Christian young men who joined the Melanesian Brotherhood - a group of laymen trained to support the Anglican Church.
Here the brothers (in white) are singing at the opening of the service while a group of men ushered in the Bible with traditional dancing.

A Bible was carried into the church on this traditional canoe - to represent how the missionaries brought The Gospel to these islands years ago.

It was a moving ceremony and it was beautiful to see the use of traditional dances and ceremonies to praise and honor God.

After the ceremony there was a big feast - they fed thousands of people!

The food was served in the traditional way - spread out on banana leaves. Here some of the Sisters of the Church are keeping the flies at bay.
